Practice Run

I wish I had more interesting stuff to show right now. Been cranking on some paintings for an upcoming show and I don't want to spill the beans on those sketches/paintings.......yet. The pic I posted was a study I did to see what approach would be best on the larger canvases I'm painting right now. Funny thing is, this one was a loose acrylic painting with some rattle can action underneath for coverage, with no underdrawing. It went pretty quick, and I thought, "Great! These paintings will go by quick!" Ha! Not so quick. As soon as any kind of pre-planned thought is set out to execute, it seems to take ten times as long. WTF??? If you draw on your pee-chee folder, whatever, but as soon as it's in a sketchbook, you freeze up. Or, at least I do.

hello augie.

it was a pleasure to have met you this past APE. apologies for not dropping by your place until now, but i've just gotten everything back in order and now i've got a free minute and wanted to drop you a line. your book/ashcan(?) was a blast to read and it was unfortunate that you guys didn't have your own seperate titles - your group certainly deserves it. you are associated with some amazing people.

thanks again for the short conversation when we met. i hope to see you again next year. BTW, this painting is so good. i have an appreication for anyone who can paint and even moreso anyone who does it in a natural medium. great looking piece.

Eric ,
Hey, thanks for the kind words. Glad you liked the book. If you're going to be at SDCC this year, I have a few older ashcans I can bring by. Can't wait to see your new sketchbook stuff for the show. Been following your stuff since Alex turned me on to it. I actually bought one of your sketches when you had them in the gallery a few years back. (girl & robot on the soulders of bigger robot with oozing brain stuff coming out)

Anyway, keep up the good work!

p.s. that Porkins sketch on your blog rules!

you dude!! vury nice...i feel the same way 'bout sketchbooks. i can draw on all the loose paper i want, play with line shapes, whatever, but as soon as i try that in a bound format...i totally freeze up, get all tight in the shoulders and hand, and ruin any slightly decent drawing. glad i'm not the only one...well, i haven't seen you mess up any art, or seen any crappy art come from you, but at least you struggle...that makes me feel better inside. you know, that place where i can't talk about because of the pending law suit? anyway...keeps it up.
