Monkey On My Back

After posting that last entry, I realized I didn't respond to all the kind folks that left comments two posts ago. Is that bad blogging etiquette? I don't know. To balance out my karma, here's a flying monkey from one of the Oz paintings. Ok. I feel better now.

Oz Sessions/Dorothy and Toto

Hey guys. Just thought I'd post a little tease before the show tomorrow. The first image is a digital color comp for the Dorothy (and Toto too) painting. The next two pics are a few in between stages. If you want to see how this one came out in the end, you can always come out to the show tomorrow night. (info for show below) Well, that's all the time I have for writing. Still last minute stuff to paint for the show. So you there suckas!

So, why has Augie been so lame at keeping up his blog? I've been busy trying to finish up the paintings for my art show next week. The invites are being printed up as we speak, but I'm posting a digital version for y'all to check out. It's a close-up of one of the paintings I'm working on. The theme for the show is The Wizard of Oz, and I'm doing my take on nine of the characters. Why nine? That's all the time I have to spare since I'm still working for the man. Anyway, hopefully I'll have time to post a few sketches between now and the show. Here's the lowdown for the reception:

Where: All City Coffee Pioneer Square

When: First Thursday / June 1st / 6-10 pm

Check out the website when you get a chance:

Anyway, hope to see you guys there. It should be a good time.

Monkeys in the Studio

In the last post I mentioned that I was working on some paintings for an upcoming show, which is why I haven't posted in awhile. Here are some of the smaller ones is progress. Acrylics, inks and a little colored pencil on woodblocks. I'll post more as the show gets closer. What's the theme you say? What other stories are there that have flying monkeys? If there's another one that I'm not aware of, please share. Don't bogart the monkeys.
