Saturday Morning 2- (Show update)
Alright, sorry for the long delay in getting the pics up from last Saturday's show, but deadlines have been bombarding me lately. I did have time to make it out to Ouch My Eye that night for the Saturday Morning group show. Once again, the folks at Ouch My Eye put on a great show. The gallery was packed all night, and it looked like everyone was having fun checking out all the great art.
There were around 25 artists that were displaying their work. These were the pics that came out from my drunky camera POV, so, sorry I couldn't post more. Also, apologies to artists who's name I forgot, but it was a pretty crazy night, and I didn't get to meet all the artists.
I think this piece kind of summed up the whole Saturday Morning theme for me. I love that this artist snuck in some Soul Train funk in there.
You can definitely tell what decade people grew up in by what characters they interpreted, or by the characters people couldn't recognize. These guys are called the Herculoids, for anyone that wasn't sure.
This was one of the many Smurf themed pieces that were on display that night.
Ed Pun did this great digital Star Blazers piece.
If you haven't come out to one of the Ouch My Eye events, definitely keep an ear open for the next one. These shows draw a big crowd, and you have to get there early if you want to scoop up some prints.
These would be the prints.
Here's a better shot of Lawerence Ruelos's Secret Squirrel piece. Just another good reason to get there early. These prints sold out before the night was even over.
James Ma did this killer digital piece of Fred and Wilma.
Joe Kresoja busted out his oils for this cool Grape Ape painting. C'mon, say it. "Grape Ape! Grape Ape!"
I know this digital Snake eyes piece was from Scott. Sorry for not knowing who did the other piece above.
It wouldn't be a show without a nipple related piece from Gene. nice Droopy holmes.
Dev completed his Cereal Epic by painting this 2nd part to his Cereal mascot series.
Also another great piece from Karin Madan with her Stumpyfriends on balsa wood. Below, would be the end of the night photo after these guys busted their butts putting on another great show. Don't forget to check out MC of the evening and artist Lawrence Ruelos's art blog when you get some time. If you bug him enough, he might even tell you when the next Muppet Rawk show is.
Much thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting the local scene. If you can make it out to Ouch My Eye, it's well worth the trip. The show is up until May 22nd, but make sure you check out the site for gallery hours by clicking here. Also, if you want to see more pics and more pieces that were in the show, check out Lawrence's flickr account by clicking here.
Anyway, sorry for the blog delay. Going to try and keep up on this a little more. Been swamped with work, and paintings for upcoming group shows. I'll be posting the latest piece in the next few days (no, really) for a group show down in LA that's going on next week. There are also a few more group shows coming up next month, so stayed tuned locos.
