Eye Candy From Strangers

I recently had the privilege of having some art selected to appear in the latest Eye Candy From Strangers book that just came out. It's the latest book from Alberto Ruiz's publishing venture called Brand Studio Press. There are lots of good juicy art books in the Brand Studio Press library, so be sure to check that stuff out.

One Northwest artist, and one former Northwest artist in the book are, Memo Diaz. and Kevin Dart Be sure to check out their sites for even more juicy art goodness. If that's not enough for you, check out the cover artist's blog, called Bagsblog. This guy has some killer work on his site. Just another example of new art guys that I haven't heard of before. Thanks to the book though, hermits like myself can now become aware of more great artists that are out there. Nice work Alberto!

On a side note, I've been trying to pay more attention to the Flickr account. To get my ass motivated on it, I decided to throw up some in progress pics of the piece that ended up in the book. My room mate at the time documented the painting process from start to finish. He even shot some time lapse of it that I need to bug him about finishing. Anyway, enjoy.

THEY

Here's the latest piece. It's for another show at The Light Galleries in Costa Mesa. The opening reception is actually tonight, so if you're in the area, check it out.

This piece measures in at 10x10. Acrylics on masonite board.

So, you might be asking, "Why the hell did you paint a Sleestak?" I should rephrase that. You might ask that if you know what a Sleestak actually is. The theme of the show is kind of hard to explain. Here's a breakdown of the theme of the show:

The TRUTH!

Well at least a possible truth.
The Reptilians walk amongst us.

Not only do they walk amongst us, but they practically
control every facet of our daily lives.

"They" are our Government Officials , They are our
Teachers and our Law enforcement.

They have been here
since The serpent first urged Eve to eat from the tree
of knowledge.

They plan to be here well after the
human race is broken down into nothing more than
cattle prepped for the slaughterhouse

Do I buy into the reptile conspiracies? No.

Did I need another excuse to paint a Sleestack? YES!

Anyway, the show should be fun. Besides a bunch of cool art, there will be live painting and live video mixing.
If you're even remotely curious about the reptile thing, read up on some David Icke here. Lots of info. Lots of links. You're brain will melt. Good luck. Just don't shoot the messenger.

7pm-midnight.

The Lasers Edge

Hey all. Here's another quick heads up about a group show this Friday at Seattle's own McLeod Residence.

Kurt Barbee, from 5280 Lasers, has combined powers with Kristen Rask of Schmancy to bring a laser engraved skate deck show to Seattle. He sent me these pics awhile back of the finished piece, and I can't wait to see it in person.

The whole thing was pretty open as far as what art to use for the deck. I sent Kurt a black and white image of the Scarecrow I did from the Residual Ozmosis show I had a few years back. Seemed like it would be a good fit.

Click here for some more info about the goings on this Friday night at the McLeod, and click here for the list of Northwest artists participating in the skate deck show. Hope to see you there!

KISS Tribute Show

Here's a heads up on a show that the Kustom Kulture crew is putting on next month. It's a huge art show celebrating the band KISS. They're still accepting submissions for the show, so get out your paints, and/or blood, and get to it. If you need some inspirato, check out Ken Kelly's site here. Ken was one of the original album cover artists for the band. I'll be posting my submission for the show later this month (sans blood), so stay tuned.
